I'm vegetarian, and when I turned up for an agency factory shift I was on the chopping up pork section to make sandwiches. Couldn't stomach more than one shift there!
Yet now I'm a nurse and clean up body fluids for a living lol!

I delivered yellow pages - it was not worth the money let's just leave it at that.

But the worst job was potato picking - a full day on hands and knees rifling through mud and filling up huge bags - I earned £9 for a full day's work. I also got a bad back from it.

I have had sweet fanny Adams in child maintenance for almost 5 years now :(

[member=1183]sparkleandshine[/member] I only started getting maintenance last summer, the month after my son turned 8. Ex was employed but still evaded paying for many years, to the point of once leaving his job just so he didn't have to pay. I still treat the money as though it could stop at any time because the reality is it may well do so. My ex owes me over £7k in arrears...I'm not holding my breath over getting that. ;D

Haven't really done any bad jobs but my worst was delivering leaflets round the whole village I live in on a very hot summer's day.

My bosses assistant manager had asked me to do it and it had to be done before the end of the day. I waited a couple of days for payment and nothing. Went to my boss and they'd only gone and fallen out (and assistant manager was sacked) and he hadn't told my boss anything about it.

Luckily my boss paid me and instead of letting me pay my friends who had helped me out of my wages he paid them too. Thousands of houses in the burning sun with a time frame of one day (9-7) meant I needed to enrol help.

I suppose it worked out for the best as I got more money that way - but what if he had refused to pay me as he didn't know anything about it? Lol

Just to clarify it wasn't a leafletting job. My boss has just taken over the local pub and I was the new barmaid.

I was eager to make as much money as possible and obviously wanted the pub to be a success (being busy meant more shifts, tips and drinks being bought for me, remember) so jumped at the chance.

Stayed there through 5 landlords and did the odd shift for tbr last one. Miss it sometimes, was a good laugh.

what is wrong with these people?! do they think kids live on thin air?! Food, milk, nappies, clothes, shoes, haircuts, school uniform, school trips, school dinners, school holidays, weekends, birthdays, Christmas, childcare, bus fares, gas, electric, rent, it all costs money! why have kids in the first place if you don't want to give them the best start you can in life?

But sadly, like you [member=481]CubaCat[/member] , I have also come to the conclusion that self reliance is the way forward! I did 5 years as a single mum before meeting my partner 6 years ago. My partner, my parents, the state and not forgetting myself by going out there and working blimming hard all the hours I could have all contributed hugely to the upkeep of my daughter. Her own father and his family, not so much :(

When I was a teenager (I forget exactly what age), I worked as a caddy as a very posh golf club in Hertfordshire. When I say posh, I mean really posh with a car park full of Bentleys etc. Although the pay was terrible, I learned a valuable lesson in life - rich people are often rich because they are mean, aggressive, and very tight with their money. I used to get paid £5 per round and I never ever got paid a tip once - one cheeky git even expected me to clean his golf clubs at the end of the round

These rich, miserable old gits were really hopeless at Golf too so a round used to take about 4 1/2 hours and they had these huge bags to carry which weighed more than I did. To make matters even worse, it used to cost me about £1.50 for a return bus fare and the journey took about 45 minutes each way.

I have no idea if this form of child slavery still exists today?

My mate used to make a fair amount of money by selling his boxer shorts! Pretty weird people who buy things like this but if you've got some old pants that needs chucking and you're desperate for cash then why not!

I cleaned my girlfriends parents house for £40 a week. Was unemployed so needed the money. I know people that have resorted to selling drugs and stuff though they were that desperate for cash :/

I once spent my easter holidays from uni in a warehouse just outside Glasgow sorting cheques into numerical order. No daylight, no-one to talk to, and the most tedious task known to man.

I delivered leaflets also once - but it was for my then husband's contracting business. I got bit my a dog when I put my hand through a letterbox. I was already terrified of dogs since I got bit by two different dogs in one day (complete different occasions) when I was 18. So that didn't help. I'm still wary now, but a lot better since I had a Labrador of our own.

£40 a week doesn't sound bad for cleaning, unless it was a really big house?! When I was a rich lady - well, not really, but I was a single mum with a baby and a demanding job, so something had to give! - I used to have a cleaner, and I only paid her £10 a week!

I can't understand why anyone would want to buy dirty underpants -ewww!!! - but I'm sure there is a market for them somewhere! I know someone else on here sells smelly shoes on ebay - [member=258]alditoharrods[/member] I think!

I once worked in the Mr FREEZE ice pop factory for 1 day.

I was tasked with opening the boxes with leaky ones inside, squeezing them all to find the culprit, then discarding to the dud pile and re-boxing the others! :-(

The worst thing I have done for money is working for a bank in the collections department. we would be actively encouraged to tell lies to customers and tell them to sell there cars and get the bus to work if needs be. £16000 a year and I was miserable.

When I was 16, for my first ever job as a waiter I agreed to cover a double shift on Mother's Day.. at the time I thought minimum wage was great because independantly earned money was novel, anyways long story short I did a 13 hour shift on £3.79 a hour I didn't realise how bad that sounded, it was the hardest I've ever worked
