Sorry you had to put up with that. I had a part-time barmaid job more than 40 years ago - I've mentioned here on a prior occasion that one of the lines of beer went up to 50p and people were moaning.

I imagine they're the same people that just go, "Yes please" as an answer - never to be heard of again. I make a point in my posts to Freecycle now that timewasters will be reported. Bleedin' people...

I'm annoyed at myself for not spotting something which which if not a complete con is most certainly a grey area. I got a message on my phone that £15 is scheduled to go out to a company called CompleteSavings (or CompleteSavers). I can't even remember signing up to them though I must have for them to have my bank details. I may have ticked a box on making savings on future purchases when I bought something online. I haven't saved any money on them with transactions (first month or so is free) _ I've looked them up online; as I say I can't remember signing up with them. As a pensioner - and even if I were working full-time - I can't afford a "cash-back" scheme where I have to pay £15 a month for the priveledge.

Also I've had notification of an automatic renewal of a Norton subscription. That was on one of my Acer laptops which I can't switch on now. Probably most of you remember to cancel subscriptions for machines (or anything) you're not using currently. Norton will refund money though - my first priority this morning is to phone the "saving" company.

Addendum: I had a broadband outage while I was typing this. I've since cancelled the subscription to the "savings" company.

Sorry I've been on Linkedin. There was an advert - I won't mention the company but it said "Remote Typist - Part-Time". I thought - worth a look so I clicked on the job to see more I saw
"Remote Job Opportunity: Home-Based Survey Participant". Okay, if I, or anyone, completes an online survey I am going to be typing but the description of a typing job turning out to be for a survey site means the folk have been somewhat disingenuous.

My late father (who came from the Greater Liverpool area - I think it would be Metropolitan Borough of Sefton today) was pro-Liverpool. He and my uncle by marriage who was an Everton supporter (my mum and her sister both married Merseyside men) never argued the toss but they did have some animated discussions.

I was going to sign up for a 'free' transcription course on Skillshare. However I didn't go through with it as Skillshare ask for a membership fee and I'm having to go carefully at the moment. At least I spotted it this time.

My BT hub gave up the ghost last week. BT sent me a mini-hub to tide me over. The engineer was supposed to fix me up with fibre optic cable today and he did show up. However I thought he was going to his van and he got the heck out of Dodge. When I rang up to find out what was happening the lady I spoke to said he'd left notes about there being mouldy food (that wasn't true) and evidence of Minnie and Micky's relations (I don't know if there is something I had missed but there wasn't anything like that near the BT connection box. I di d have a problem like that some years ago and someone from the Council came out and fixed it - about £50 though no doubt that will have increased). I had been spending a little time each day tidying and dusting because I had let the housework pile up because of my mobility issues. He also apparently said something about exposed wires. I couldn't see any. If he had a problem I wish he'd just said this, that and t'other is causing me concern instead of just vanishing. I've rescheduled for 13th Mach. I had fried an egg and had the thing in which I'd fried it soaking so I wonder if he got the wrong end of the stick and thought it had been there a while instead of just recently. Well the mini-hub is still functioning. I've got some typing today though at this rate I'll be spending my earnings as soon as they come in. The upgrade to fibre-optic cable is free because I have a contract with BT.

EON tried that mouse trick on with me when my solar panel system failed. They traced it to a fault in the control box but said because I had a mouse problem I wouldn't be covered by their guarantee as mice are known to chew through cables. I do have a mouse problem and had traps down, so that might be fair enough if he had found a chewed cable. But the mouse didn't unscrew the control box then take out a soldering iron and tamper with the components in the circuit board did it? As I pointed out to the man. Anyway they did send out a replacement and fix it in the end, but I'm still annoyed they tried to weasel (or should that be mouse) their way out of fixing it.

Would have been quite a mouse if it could wield a screwdriver, homie!

I've had a message coming up on my laptop that cooling fan is not working properly and there could be problems with it functioning. I've been monitoring it and it has mostly been working okay but I got a job to do some proofreading today but I can't open the password protected word doc and wonder if the fan problem has anything to do with it. I've worked with password protected documents before no problem. The work is more sporadic than it was a few years ago so I hate having to say sorry but I can't do a job. Looks like I may have to sally forth to ye olde computere repaire shoppe.

I remember replacing a computer fan on a laptop when it said it was failing. It was out of warranty so was curious what HP tech support recommended. New motherboard for £134. I glad I went with the £12 ebay fan.

My last full-time job before I retired was in a museum and the team I was working with were based not a million miles from the food hall and meeces came into the room where we worked though not when we were there, they came in at night. I was the only person - at the beginning at least - who had a proper desk (I don't know if the fact I was the oldest on the team had something to do with that) - the others didn't have drawers to their desks and they came into work one day to find the meeces had been nibbling at their chocolate. One of the maintenance men arranged to have a barrier - consistency was like a brush - put at the bottom of the door. Guaranteed to be mouse-proof. We came to work to find a dent in the barrier where the meeces had pushed through. I was old enough to remember I'm Sorry I'll Read that Again (radio show with John Cleese, Tim Brooke-Taylor, Bill Oddie and others pre-Monty Python and The Goodies) where they did a spoof on Champion the Wonder Horse one week called Champion The Wonder Mouse. I said we must have Champion The Wonder Mouse living at the museum.

I'm not averse at 'having a go' but there are times when I feel as a layperson it's best to let the experts do the task lest I make a complete mess of it. Mine laptop is an HP. I spoke to one of the people at the computer shop today and he said if it's just a matter of simply cleaning the fan they might not need to get a new one.

I did a search on "transcription work UK". There was a site called "MyRemotePath" - from their wording it sounded as though they had current transcription work. Well they were a job board and the most recent transcription jobs were from June 2023. They were certainly disingenuous. Mind you I've come across sites which say they want typists or data entry workers and when you look closer they are survey sites. At least Branded Surveys and Toluna etc. don't mislead folk. They don't pretend to be something they aren't.

I turned up at a job through the agency today to be told that the school had cancelled with them yesterday. If its not messing up wages its not keeping up to date with jobs.

The above is a sympathy like, Karonher - definitely not saying I'm glad it happened to you. I've had to stump up for a new laptop fan. The repair man to be fair did try to see if he could cannibalise a part from an old machine but that didn't work. I had a chance to do some typing this week too.
