I have been a member of TMS for over a year now and have lots of information on how to earn money from home. Thing is, I have two part time jobs so, and I don't mean to upset anyone, but I can survive on that income (its not a great income but I don't really spend a lot!

I really want to spend more time at home but I have no motivation!!

My father passed away last year after a short illness and I have spent since then looking after my mum so I haven't had any spare time.

My question is.... do I just "survive" on my current income or go all out to get extra money so I can give up work earlier.

If I go all out, how can I get more motivation to do so. What do you do to motivate yourselves to earn from home. Apologies for poor grammar etc but I need a new keyboard for my laptop!!!!

Do you want nice things??

Do you want holidays??

Everything comes at a price and I suppose a lot of motivation comes from that

I work VERY hard and want to have rewards for doing so. That is what Spurs me on. What is the point in me using my laptop to earn money if I am just going to earn peanuts

I suppose the question you need to ask yourself is are you getting everything you want out of life with the money you are earning at the moment or do you want more??

Usually when you're procrastinated, the hardest thing to do is to get started. Once you've made a start, you've won half the battle. Even by doing just a few things you will feel much better at the end of the day and able to relax better, than if you keep putting things off.

Think about that, and that'll help you combat procrastination :)

I've always found havign a goal helps. When I teach the kids at school we're always going on about 'smart targets'
S - specific

M - measurable

A - achievable

R - realistic

T - timely

So, perhaps get yourself a specific target (E.g. I want to earn £x a month) and plan how you're going to do that? I hope this doesn't come off patronising!

There;s a money making challenge that's run evey month on the forum, perhaps you could join that and see if it motivates you?

I wouldn't say I am lazy as I do a lot around the house and also a lot of dog walking everyday, but when it comes to working online I am not always motivated to earn past what I 'need'. I am not motivated by money really, just having what I want and need, which isn't alot.

But it sounds like you are talking about having more time at home in the long run by giving up a job, which would motivate me! I would work out exactly how much you need to save to do this, set small goals, and maybe make a chart or something to track it.

You need to think about and consider your WHY.

Why do I want to make money online? Is it to quit your job, for a holiday, to expand another business? :-\

And what would these things offer you or allow you to do.

I admit I get times when I procrastinate and it's because my WHY is not big enough

The only way I can find motivation is for it to become part of a routine. If you don't have much time to start with, start small and gradually increase time spent until you're used to it.

Find time you can sit down at the computer and have a list of what it is you want to do or achieve. Having a monetary target for the month is a good place to start - you can then work out how much it is you need to earn per day from that.

Other times I know I want to get through all of my emails (surveys mainly) so will keep going through those until I'm done regardless of how much made.

I'm a list maker.

Every day or couple of days I make myself a list of what I need to do and take great satisfaction in ticking something off the list. Sometimes I tell myself that I'll have a break or go for a coffee or something after x amount of things are done.

Also, I find that if I absolutely force myself to do something for 5 minutes (and tell myself I can stop when 5 minutes is over) then most of the time I get 'into it' and keep going until it's finished. Getting started is the most difficult bit.

Thank you for your replies. I really appreciate you all taking the time to try and help :) I will try the suggestions. I'm like you [member=871]Twiggy[/member] in that money isn't that important to me except that I would need to earn some before I could go self employed from home!

I see everyone doing so well on this forum and think I could too but I spend far too much time reading this forum and blogs and not actually doing anything lol...

Onward and upwards and hopefully I will join the monthly challenge soon :)

It feels like that for me too. I work part-time, but I'd like to give up my job and be able to raise the kids at home without having to send them to nursery - so that's the rough target I've set. I looked at the difference in take home pay versus the cost of the childcare, and made myself a little chart with a target to be making an extra £500 a month by August.
It started off quite well in January, really well in February, then hit a real slump this month with a few disappointments - and now I'm finding it hard to dust myself off and get motivated again.
I find I think and read about making money far more than I actually do anything about it too. That's probably the real problem!

There's a free pdf that I like called Self-Discipline in 10 Days - how to go from thinking to doing in 10 days. If you google for it there are loads of links, and I've found it motivated me for awhile when I first read it a few years back!

Not sure how much of this is relevant to you, however, this is what I do to stay motivated when working from home: http://katykicker.com/staying-motivated-working-from-home/

It depends on your wants and needs. The more you have wants in life the more expenses you get. So in short, you have to earn that will accommodate your wants.
