I have a personal wordpress plan, is there an email subscription facility like mailchimp that I can use with the personal plan. Or do I need to upgrade to the business plan so that I can install it as a plugin?

I have searched on Google prior to posting here. As far as I have found I need a business plan to install a plugin on Wordpress. I am asking if there is a way I can set up an e-mail distribution with the personal Wordporess plan.
I'm not sure what a 'personal wordpress plan' is, it this where wordpress host the site themselves? If so, go self-hosted as I'm sure there is a plug-in that will do the job. Most of the 'social plugins' have an option for email so people will get emails when you post new stuff (if they want to).

I think the main problem is that any automatic email collection software will require coding to be inserted into your Wordpress theme and that's limited on the personal plan. I really don't know much about Wordpress.com, can you install Jetpack? If yes then Jetpack will give you the option to allow readers to subscribe via email and will then email them each time you post.
You can then use those emails to build up your own email database (as long as you informed readers that this is what you're doing) and use something like MailChimp to send out personalised emails like newsletters or updates.
